I have been a Whole Food, Plant-Based eater since 2016. I lost 60# with Bright Line Eating in 2016 and reversed hypertension, obesity, and borderline diabetes. Both plans are the most effective and sustainable for accomplishing improved health and optimal weight. I am a Family Nurse Practitioner working at Harbor Community Health Center in San Pedro, CA. I am available to assist anyone who is interested in learning more about these two ways of eating to improve his or her health. I can prescribe medications for those who need them, with a goal of weaning off medications as your diet improves. Our clinic accepts self-pay or various insurances, including Medicare, MediCal, and several HealthCareLA plans.
I am a board certified internal medicine physician, with a focus in lifestyle medicine, including nutrition, activity/exercise, sleep, and mindfulness & meaning. I started my own journey in the 1990s and have been growing and learning, with an interest in nutrition research, long before I found medicine and became a doctor. I have opened my own clinic, where I can talk at length with my patients about lifestyle medicine and more, without the restrictions of many of the big box clinics. I am truly passionate about a plant based lifestyle and recovering/pursuing optimal health. I also do OMT (hands-on diagnosis and treatment) and I have home visit programs for my mobility-challenged and elderly patients. Located in sunny, seaside Ventura, CA.
I am a registered dietitian, American College of Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner and a Life/Weight Coach. I first learned about plant based medicine 19 years ago during my practicum at the Pritikin Longevity Center and have been passionate about the role food has in our health ever since, though I haven’t always been as spot on with my nutrition as I am today.
I can remember as a mom of young kids feeling mom-like and not in a good way. I was bursting out of my jeans. But worse than that, I felt too big for my skin. One day I noticed that my seatbelt was cutting into my stomach. That was a first. I remember thinking I’m a dietitian, I know better. I felt ashamed because I was preaching healthy eating, but I wasn’t always eating healthy. I was on the “one is never enough” plan and it showed on my body. I remember the phone call from my doctor’s office–bad labs. I thought, what am I doing? I know better. Then the shame fell away and I had a new feeling, conviction. I decided I was going to take care of myself and I started following my E.A.S.E. plan (which now I share with my clients).
E: eat greens
A: add fiber and color
S: subtract processed foods
E: exercise your mind and body
I felt healthier. No longer exhausted. I didn’t shove my words down with food anymore. I said what I was thinking instead of snacking. Now I weigh 102 lbs. My weight has stayed the same for over 10 years. Jeans slide on with no effort (except those double zeros!). I no longer fear the seatbelt. Now I help others do the same.

Over 24 years of experience in clinical nutrition gives me a depth of knowledge to share with you. Particularly if you are concerned with weight, diabetes, digestive/bowel and kidney diseases. Maybe you are confused by all the ‘chatter’ out there. My approach is to always start with the ‘science’. And the science supports Plant-Based Nutrition as our best defense in this challenging world.
After reading ‘The China Study’ by T. Colin Campbell, I completed the eCornell University Plant Based Nutrition course in 2013. Following that our team of Educators, Dietitians and Doctors at Kaiser Permanente Northern California East Bay Region developed the curriculum for Plant-Based Nutrition classes.

Dr. Queler’s philosophy is that given the the current healthcare crisis, epidemic of non-communicable chronic disease, and unsustainable impact of the human race on planet Earth, it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society and environment.
Subsequently, Dr. Queler feels it is his mandate to practice stewardship of not only his body, but also from the workld we borrow from future generations. For obtaining optimal health will not only dramatically affect one’s life, but also the life of those we love and the world. Subsequently, he apsires to empower patients, families and the community at large to apply evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches in order to simulatneously address our individual and collective: health, humaniatrian, and environmental impact.

What gets me out of bed in the morning is the honor of helping people attain optimal health & wellness. I am passionate about preventive health care, board certified in Lifestyle Medicine as well as Anti-Aging & Regenerative Medicine; and I am focused on helping to change the delivery from sick care to well care. I live a plant-based life personally and professionally. I run, lift weights, play tennis and ride my bike regularly. I believe you have to be a role model to do Lifestyle Medicine professionally. I worked as an Internist and the Medical Director for Wellness & Employee Health for the Lee Health system for 26 years but now have started Concierge Lifestyle Medicine, a private practice devoted to plant-based living and healthy lifestyle behaviors.
When I graduated from UCLA with my Master’s in Public Health in 1988, I had a very important decision to make. Do I, or do I not return to UC Davis School of Medicine to complete my training to become a physician? (I had spent 3 years at UC Davis) I realized that I was passionately committed to promoting health and preventing disease, and that I was no longer interested in treating disease. I made a bold decision to pursue studying Lifestyle Medicine on my own and went into healthcare administration and eventually consulting. But along the way, I was busy conducting my own research, delivering seminars and even wrote a book on health called Evolving Health, endorsed by Dr. Neal Barnard. In 2016, I attended the Plant-based Nutrition Healthcare Conference and learned about the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. I was so thrilled! In October 2017, I attended my first Lifestyle Medicine Conference and was delighted to have found my tribe. They announced the board certification for physicians and for professionals. I was in! In October 2018, I attended my second Lifestyle Medicine Conference and passed my board exam! I am so proud to officially be a Lifestyle Medicine Professional! For the longest time, I have believed that a whole food, plant-based diet is fundamental to empowering people to prevent, reverse and treat chronic disease. I have had the good fortune to have helped hundreds to do just that.
Laurie Marbas, MD, MBA is a double board certified family medicine and lifestyle medicine physician, who has been utilizing food as medicine since 2012. She is Co-founder of Plant Based TeleHealth, (http://plantbasedtelehealth.com) the first plant based lifestyle medicine practice covering the United States. Previously, she created a new medical model combining the power of nutrient-dense foods and intensive clinical psychological therapy to treat not only food addiction but also chronic disease. As the Managing Editor for the Plantrician Project’s International Journal of Disease Reversal and Prevention, she works closely with the journal’s Editor in Chief, Dr. Kim Williams. The journal is focused on bringing plant-based research to the forefront of modern medicine and to the general public. She is also co-founder of Healthy Human Revolution, whose mission is to provide resources that will empower individuals with the knowledge, tools, and mindset to successfully adopt and sustain a whole food, plant-based (WFPB) diet.
In Colorado, when Laurie convinced a large hospital to create a lifestyle medicine program centered around a WFPB diet, the program showed resounding success. At another hospital, she conducted a one-month study of 26 employees on a WFPB diet. All employees were fed from the hospital’s kitchen, and each individual experienced improved health. She has spoken at the Golden VegFest in Colorado, the International Plant-based Nutrition Healthcare Conference, and other venues teaching about the value of the WFPB diet.
Laurie received her dual degrees (MD and MBA) from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and TTU School of Business. She was awarded the Texas Tech University School of Medicine Gold Headed Cane Award, a symbol for excellence in the art of medicine and the care of patients. She wrote seven books while in medical school, six of which were in a series called “Visual Mnemonics.” These books used cartoons to help people memorize vast amounts of information—a system that helped her personally when she was a mom attending medical school. As a United States Air Force veteran, she served in the Middle East and South America. She is also a wife, mom of three grown children, host of the Healthy Human Revolution podcast, author, speaker, and avid runner.
