I am a general internist in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Adult Long-Term Follow-Up Program. This program provides follow-up care for adult survivors of childhood cancers and survivors of adult cancer who had high-risk treatment (such as radiation to the chest). We offer one of this country’s leading programs that is committed solely to adult survivors of cancer. Our program links patients with specialists in survivorship, such as dermatologists, cardiologists, and rehabilitation medicine experts. In addition to providing care for cancer survivors, I am conducting research to better understand long-term health problems related to cancer and its treatment. My primary areas of research are cardiovascular disease, obesity, and insulin resistance following cancer therapy. Some cancer treatment increases the risk for insulin resistance and type II diabetes; changes in diet and dietary habits during therapy might contribute to these problems. I’d like to better understand this process and develop ways to help cancer survivors maintain healthful eating habits. As a general internist, I enjoy taking care of the whole patient and helping patients understand how to promote good health. I look forward to following my patients and caring for them their entire lives.
