I’m Dr. Mitchel Schwindt and am a board-certified physician who focuses on helping my coaching clients and patients achieve an optimized life. The concepts of functional medicine step past the normal boundaries of traditional western medicine and get to the core issues that keep people from achieving their best self. My coaching and courses focus on those concepts and distill the complex into simple digestible bites to help you reach your full potential. By going upstream of health problems, functional medicine targets the root cause and cultivates the restoration of health. My coaching practice encompasses a broad spectrum of health and wellness concepts to get you to the next level. My formal training began in emergency medicine physician, but I’ve practiced in a variety of clinical settings. I completed his residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As part of Michigan State University, Butterworth was renamed Spectrum Health, and is one of the busiest level 1 emergency and trauma centers in the United States. I had the privilege of serving as chief resident my final year. Also, while there I was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, a prestigious medical honor society. My favorite aspect of emergency medicine was working as a flight physician (helicopter) for an aeromedical organization. I even wrote a book about my experiences and how it shaped my outlook on life and medicine (see side bar to the right). I have served on many committees and steering groups related to health care, quality and process improvement, but find my passion lies in interacting with people, patients and students and not sitting in a stuffy board room. I like to volunteer as a physician for local sporting and martial arts events. my children and I are passionate about animal rights are volunteer weekly at the local animal shelter and love bonding with the animals. In my free time, I love competing in triathlons, skiing, water sports, time with family, foreign travel and pursuing entrepreneurial activities. I’m also a plant powered chef and you can find my creations on my instagram page. The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being. — Tenzin Gyatso
