Pediatric focused WFPB consultations
I’m a consultant pediatrician and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto. I completed my pediatric residency at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Prior to medical school I completed a Masters in Health Policy Planning and Finance from the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Currently I work for the Scarborough Health Network and a founding member of Markham Kids Clinic. I recently completed the Plant Based Certificate program through the T Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies at Cornell University. I recently spoke as a panel member at the KW Veg Fest focusing on plant based nutrition for a pediatric population (link found below). I’m passionate about promoting a culture of wellness and resilience within physician and trainee communities through medical improv, meditation and plant-based nutrition. My plant based journey started as a child from my mom, a life long vegetarian who impressed upon me the principles of plant based eating. It wasn’t until sixteen years ago though I wholeheartedly adopted a plant-based diet to improve my meditation practice and live an eco-friendly lifestyle. After years of trial, error and refinement I have been reaping the many physical, mental and spiritual benefits of this lifestyle transformation. As a result, I have developed an approach that I have been sharing with children and families to embody a family centred approach. In the spirit of prevention as an approach for children, I advocate to help reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and fewer asthma flares all through a plant based diet. Having worked with numerous families I am passionate and confident in giving children and their families the best fuel for their wellbeing to maximize their potential.

Read more…I am a board certified physician right outside of Atlanta in Sandy Springs, GA. I am board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. After losing my parents at an early age and having my own medical concerns, I was inspired by a family friend to research a plant based diet. Afterwards I decided to adopt a plant based diet and become board certified in Lifestyle Medicine. I use Lifestyle Medicine principles in my everyday practice of medicine. I just opened a practice, Flourish Pediatrics, which focuses on providing pediatric care from the age of birth to college and implementing a plant based/plant positve dietwith lifestyle medicine principles such as physical activity, stress management, sleep improvement strategies to prevent chronic or preventable medical conditions in my patients and families that I treat. Â
I offer nutrition counseling for patients and families and I also treat and coordinate the treatment of chronic conditions such as anemia, diabetes, childhood obesity and hypertension, etc.

Read more…I am a General Pediatrician practicing in Pierre, SD for Avera Medical Group. I also see patients one half-day weekly at Oahe Valley Health Center in Fort Pierre, SD. My practice encompasses all general pediatric care including outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital services from newborns through adolescence covering acute and chronic care. Practicing medicine for me is about focusing on preventative measures and helping patients and families develop healthy lifestyle choices so they can live their best lives. This includes recommending a Whole Food Plant Based diet, routine physical activity, good sleep hygiene, reducing stress, staying socially connected and reducing risky and unhealthy behaviors. I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Diplomate in the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
I work as a pediatrician caring for the general health of children from birth to early adulthood. I am board certified in pediatrics and have been in practice for nearly 25 years. Once I became aware of the role food and proper nutition has on our health and happiness, I changed my diet to a Whole Food Plant Based diet and have never looked back. Additionally, I have started to implement education of and encouragement for a healthier diet in all of the children and thier families that I care for, knowing that through a proper foundation in science based nutrition our children’s future health, environment and world will be brighter.Â
I have followed a plant-based diet since 1976 and a low fat, 100% plant-based diet for several years. As a general practice physician, I see the adverse effects of the Standard American Diet in my practice on a daily basis. Infants and children are constipated, overweight, and obese, with acne and back and joint pain. They have developmental and learning problems, including autism. They are sick often. Their parents often see them as normal. There is a better way, and it is to start off life and continue it on a diet that supports personal health and the health of nature and the planet. I would like to have consultations with patients who seek guidance on the path towards a plant-based diet.

Read more…My husband and I read the China Study in 2010 and immediately put down the book and cleaned out our kitchen! The evidence is overwhelming that a Whole-Food, Plant-Based diet is the healthiest way to eat and live. We have been WFPB ever since and are raising our kids that way as well. The more I’ve learned over the last few years, the more I am convinced that poor nutrition is at the root of the vast majority of medical problems. I find myself talking about nutrition at just about every patient visit! I have recently started a shared medical appointment for adults and kids interested in learning more about WFPB nutrition and the associated health benefits. I am so excited to be bringing this knowledge to the world of pediatrics! Children can grow and thrive and prevent a world of health problems by adopting a WFPB lifestyle right from the start!
I co-lead a shared medical appointment (SMA) educating adults and kids about WFPB nutrition. I am also happy to see kids and families in the office for private nutrition counseling.
