As a fitness professional for over 16 years, I now know that exercise alone is not enough for my fitness clients to achieve a lifetime of health and wellness. I was initially inspired as I began to see a shift in the fitness industry in 2013 towards discussion of scope of practice for fitness professionals. Research shows that overweight and obese individuals are more likely to speak with their fitness instructor or personal trainer than seek out the support of a Registered Dietician for dietary guidance. I know that whole food plant-based nutrition is essential to managing weight and preventing disease. I completed my Masters of Science degree in Nutrition in 2015, in an effort to support my client’s overall health and wellness goals, and the understanding of when to refer to a medical professional such as an RD or MD. My goal is to meet my clients where they are at and encourage awareness and inspire small changes in an effort to help them achieve their goals.
